College Climb is a study and college-planning tool for students and their families. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do — and don't do — with it.

The short version

  • We collect what you give us so the product can work: your account, your academic profile, files you upload, and your tutoring conversations.
  • We use AI providers to power the tutor and related features. Your content is sent to them to generate responses — not to advertise to you.
  • We do not sell your personal information. We do not show ads.
  • You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.

What we collect

  • Account information — email address and password (stored hashed), or your Google account identity if you sign in with Google.
  • Profile information you provide — things like grade level, school, GPA, test scores, intended majors, activities, learning-style preference, budget range, and the personal answers you give during onboarding.
  • Content you create or upload — tutoring conversations, essays and drafts, assignments, images, PDFs, and videos you upload for the tutor to work from.
  • Usage and billing information — subscription status and, if you subscribe, billing handled by Stripe (we never see or store your full card number).

How we use it

  • To run your tutoring sessions and personalize how the tutor teaches you — including remembering, across sessions, how you learn best.
  • To match you with colleges, trade schools, and scholarships based on your profile.
  • To operate your account, subscription, and support requests.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your content for advertising.

AI processing

The tutor and several features are powered by third-party AI models. When you use them, relevant content (for example, your message, your profile calibration, or a file you uploaded) is sent to the AI provider to generate the response. Our current providers are Anthropic (Claude) for tutoring and text features and Google (Gemini) for analyzing uploaded videos. We use API services whose terms do not permit training their models on your data.

AI responses can be wrong. Tutoring answers, college matches, and financial-aid information are provided to help you learn and plan — always verify important decisions with your school counselor or the institution itself.

Who processes data on our behalf

We use a small set of service providers to run College Climb: Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), Vercel (hosting), Anthropic and Google (AI processing as described above), Stripe (payments), and Upstash (rate limiting). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

Students and age

College Climb is intended for students 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it. If you're under 18, a parent or guardian should know you're using this. Parents and guardians can contact us at any time to review or delete their student's account.

How long we keep data, and deletion

We keep your data while your account is active so your tutor's memory and your college planning stay intact. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us; we will delete it within 30 days, except records we are legally required to keep (such as billing records).

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, stored with a major cloud provider (Supabase on AWS), and protected by per-user access controls at the database layer. No system is perfectly secure — but our architecture is designed so your data stays yours.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
